My name is Ms. Bilal. I am a proud mom to two wonderful kids age 16 and 11. In 2010, after I received my Bachelor's Degree in English, I decided to go back and get my Master's in the Art of Teaching specializing in English. What a journey!! That journey was completed December of 2012. January 2013 I decided that I needed just one more degree... I needed to get my Master's of Education in Instructional Technology. I had become so engrossed in online education and using technology, that I thought it only right to get a degree so that I can show my counterparts can use technology in their own classrooms.
Am I qualified?
I currently maintain my own classroom website for the 6 English class that I teach. As a special education teacher, technology is the greatest tool that i can use to give my students the best opportunity to access the curriculum. Since the creation of my website, in addition to the other technology tools that we use regularly, 75% of students have increased their reading and writing scores on HSA tests, Woodcock Johnson assessments, and DC CAS assessments. Currently, more than 80% of my students are passing English through the 2nd quarter. Past years, 50% of students were failing English. I am 2 classes away from completing the degree.
My Philosophy...
I believe that you can be an effective teacher when you teach where the students are. In the 21st Century, our students are on the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media. Our students are learning more from their Smartphones that they are learning from their teachers. I can show you how to effectively choose content and multimedia to enhance your websites and lessons plans that will be engaging and interactive for your students.
